John Taupin was a very highly respected wizard that was looked upon with favor amongst the higher ups of wizarding society. He ended up being elected into the Ministry of Magic (M.o.M) in 1995, quickly being shuffled into the position of head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation after the unfortunate death of former head. Bartemius Crouch Sr., his life being taken by his own son who was a Death Eater. The position was a match made in heaven for Taupin, as he was a well known world traveler in the first place. His whole life, he held an intense fascination with muggle studies and the muggle world. He would spend his free time traveling about the world, going to museums, and appreciating culture. Starting from the beginning of the twentieth century, soon, Mr. Taupin found himself knowing almost every bit of information that he could about both muggle and wizarding history. On top of traveling the world, he was also very well known for being extremely anti blood purism. While at home and working in the Ministry, he often preached about the stupidity of blood supremacy and how the discrimination against half-bloods and muggle-borns was just plain foolish.
One day while sitting in his fifth floor office, a man and woman who also worked in his department approached him with a finding. "John," the man said as the two entered the room. Mr. Taupin looked up from the document he was working on, quickly dropping his pencil and acknowledged the two. "What's going on?" he asked curiously. "Well," the woman began, "Minerva McGonagall of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry handed us these letters today." The woman gently set the letters onto his desk. "They're acceptance letters into their school, but she's discovered a slight issue with the children that they're all addressed to," the man added. John picked up the letters. There were five, addressed to children by the names of Amoreena Lynn, Levon Carlton, Bentley Russo, Alice Davis, and Gray Hodgins. All of the children were in different places within Europe. "And what's the issue?" asked John, returning his attention towards the two individuals. The two looked at cach other, sharing the same expression and sighing. "They're all orphans. Each in a foster care system with muggles. Not muggle-borns, muggles."
"We were planning on possibly calling a meeting? I mean, it doesn't make sense to send these letters, but we can't deprive any child of their own fair shot here." said the man. John nodded, agreeing completely. Sending the letters would be dangerous, but you can't just keep a letter like this from a child. He thought about it for a moment, weighing his options. "A meeting won't be necessary." said John as he was in deep thought. The truth of the matter is, John had always wanted his own family, but had refrained from taking matters into his own hands in case he fell in love. As blunt as it may seem, love certainly wasn't finding him any time soon, but that shouldn't stop a man from starting a family on his own accord.
"I'll adopt the kids," says Mr. Taupin. The two members of the ministry gasped, staring at him wide-eyed. "I mean… John, are you sure about this? That's a rather big respons-" "Of course I'm sure!" John interrupted, standing up from his desk and taking the letters into his hands.
"Why wouldn't I be? Everyone will benefit from it. I'd love to give these kids a chance." And after a brief check in with fellow members of the department, ministry, and the Minister of Magic themselves, John Taupin was approved to begin the adoption process.
He successfully was able to adopt all five of the children, having a smooth pick up process with each one. The last child to pick up was little Gray, who upon picking up addressed themselves as "Hercules." When John heard this, he smiled and chuckled happily at the
small child. "Hercules, aye? I like it. Suits you much more than Gray, doesn't it?" and the two, like the other four, left their foster home smiling and excited.
When all five were finally safe and secured in their new home, John sat down with them all and had the talk. No, not the talk, but the wizarding talk. And after that talk, the rest was history. All five of the kids grew up with the same ideals as their father and appreciated both muggle and wizarding history alike. Growing up, they all developed their own personalities
and aesthetics, all of which seemed to have a unique correspondence to decades in history (then again, what else would you expect from a Taupin?). Though this was the case, they were all incredibly close and held their family at a high importance in their lives. They all safely began to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when the time came, and were eternally grateful to their father for giving them a fair chance and all the love they could ask for. And so, the Taupin family was complete.
